Kirby has been all about retention over attraction via NIL from the jump. His belief is that the development and opportunity should be the thing that gets them in the door and if they need more than a year or 2, then NIL is there to help keep them in place. Big reason why we could’ve used a guy like Walter Nolen but weren’t about to get into a bidding war and instead used the funds to keep Christen Miller, Mykel Williams, etc

That's nice to say but all of these schools are offering NIL deals to recruits, high school and transfer portal alike. Ideally, your roster is in a position like UGA's is, you're recruiting high school players at a great rate and you want to retain those guys, but let's not pretend they aren't being offered NIL deals on the front end.

if you are recruiting at a high level then your first priority should be retention and using NIL for those players
