So another question comes to mind. In basketball, you have 13 scholarships. What if they want/have more than 13 qualified players. Can they just tell the 14th person that we don't have a "scholarship" for you, but here's an extra 50K in NIL money to pay for the things the scholarship pays for. Is there a reason teams can't do this?

Welcome to the world where people with the most money win.

Also known as reality.

Nobody was told that there would be "collectives"...

*ahem*

Pretty sure some teams in this league already had "collectives" before NIL.

I'm just sayin...

This model will soon implode.

I agree. Sooner or later people are going to get tired of sending money to entitled egotistical athletes that dont pan out. There will be man that do but most wont.

Also the current model doesnt do a damn thing for players NIL marketing so they are just getting money from the collective to join the team. Most all of the players are doing nothing NIL related to get paid.

Yea that was something some have already discussed. In your example I think that he wouldn't be able to suit up as he wouldn't be on the roster, but hypothetically walk-ons could get NIL that acts as a de-facto scholarship.
