What’s the story behind the subject for this thread? The past two years I haven’t really followed any threads except basketball.

Then I noticed I haven’t seen surges name in a while or I missed it

I’m still going with Kiffin. He could take just about anything and put out a great product, one reason I don’t think Dart is better than Milroe. The other two aren’t slouches

I just don’t get that Kiffin love. Decent OC, average HC, sort of below average human being.

Dude thinks he is smarter than he actually is.

Nah, he is a damn good OC. And he had OM ranked near the top 10 last year. Average HC at Ole Miss does not have them ranked that high.

Weird take.

Kiff is a fantastic OC, and an above average HC. He's the only coach to ever have 2 10 win seasons at OM.

At

Ole

Miss

He's only been a HC for 12 seasons and half of those produced 10 win seasons. I'd say that makes him more than above average.

Vaught had three 10 win seasons at Ole Miss. It was 65 years ago though.

This isn't to disprove any of your point, just being a stats nerd.

Kiffin had Ole Miss end the year ranked in the top 10 last year. 3 years ago they finished #11. He's a good coach, if not very good.

He's an outstanding OC. I'd argue he is as good as OC as anyone. In his 3 years at Bama he had 3 different players at 3 different positions win SEC offensive player of the year, 2 of those guys were 1st year starters. If someone prefers Sark I can understand, but the thing that made Kiffin so good is that he could win in so many different ways. He didn't have to have a polished QB to have a great offense.

I'm not dismissing his chops as an OC, but, IMHO, he tends to get ahead of his skis at critical moments.

I'll remember him for doing wonders for Blake Sims, transforming our offense, etc. However, I will ALSO remember forgetting about Derrick Henry against Ohio St in 2014, as well as his childish antics leading to the National Championship game in 2017.

That is my opinion of him.

And its not like he didn't have NFL talent everywhere at Bama, and plenty at OM.

I like Kiffin, I think he's a funny guy, and it seems like he has grown up a little bit over the past few years, but he has definitely had some head scratching moments as an OC. I do think he's above average though.

As HC as well. The popcorn game, going for it on 4th down in his own territory multiple times against Bama in 2021 was an absolutely horrible string of decision making. It turned what may have been a good game into a beatdown OM had no hope in keeping close.
