Dude, Hugh Freaking Freeze is your current head coach.

Hasn't been more than a few months since the Chad Baker-Mazara incident.

Then there's Nick Fairley. We could go on, but let's just leave it at glass houses and rocks. Freaking moron.

An "incident" involving what?

I'm no defender of Freeze. He will recruit anybody that is highly rated. Gus didn't and that's because of Jovon Robinson and Duke Williams. He stuck with the suburban kids like Kerryon.

so the question is what's the best type of fear to use as a motivator?

Typically what keeps people from going to jail is the fear that going to jail and being a convicted felon will ruin one’s life.

But that doesn’t work with some people. When going to prison is expected and celebrated it isn’t a deterrent. There are a lot of people who grow up with a mindset that they have basically three options: A) rob/hustle/steal/kill until they end up in prison, B) rob/hustle/steal/kill until they end up getting shot and killed themselves, C) become a rapper or professional athlete. When you have someone who expects to be murdered or go to prison, there are clearly not many deterrents that will work. The only thing that will work is cultural change. But people do not want that. The reasons for that belong on the politics board and not here, but it is all about power.

He was a legit talent, and to his credit never got in trouble while at MSU and has become a great NFL player, but he should have never played at MSU. But the fact is, that if MSU would have released him, someone else would have picked him up and given him a second chance.

And here's the biggest problem of it all.

Yes, State should definitely send him packing, and I hope you do. The sad reality is that, unless he winds up in prison (which seems at least somewhat likely), he will just wind up playing for another team. If he's good enough (never heard of him, so I don't know), probably even one of your rivals.

I can't imagine what a head coach has going through their minds knowing all this. Hopefully the State coach lets all the facts come in, then just does what's right based on the whole story.

I hope this guy ends up in prison, but I think it's most likely that he just ends up on another team.

The whole situation reminds me of the Chris Beard situation. Texas did the right thing, but there was a school just sitting their ready to pounce. Beard should be barred from coaching, but he's still making millions and just wearing a different polo shirt. The whole sports culture in America is disgusting.

Agree with everything you posted, I was just trying to think more along the lines of pain as a method of fear...ie the caning in Asian countries....if I had to sleep on my stomach for 3 months I'd maybe reconsider my actions.

ou are missing the best part.

Only 18% of students are proficient in English.
Only 29% are proficient in History

And somehow they produce a respectable 85% graduation rate.

The state of MS should take over JPS. Jackson is not capable of running anything correctly.

Remove a few select areas of the state and MS rankings would shoot up.

But Harrison Butker said the nuclear family is important, and he still gets to play ball & not be jailed? I just don't get it.

Not disagreeing, but at what point does someone have to be found guilty of said crime, or atleast admit guilt in some form?

Yeah, that's fair. That's why I wouldn't want to be the person making these decisions. You have to protect the image, the brand, win (a lot), and weigh all of that against what's actually right and good.

Some people don't care about what's right/good/moral. They probably have an easier time with this stuff. I'm not like those people.

But, still, even when you weigh everything and know that you can't legitimately keep one of these people, you know you are just strengthening your competition by letting them go. That really needs to be fixed somehow.

used to agree with that sentiment, but prison isn't working because there isn't much fear involved in going there.

Maybe in some places. however, there is all kind of fear that goes into being at Alabama DOC. One of the worst systems in the country. Try being a young white gut with a short stint at ADOC.

Florida and Texas also notorious for other reasons. Just go to Al.com and type ADOC and see some of the insanity going on there. Smh.

OM has no basketball history or legacy, it was totally worth the gamble for them.

If a big name came open in football, with some baggage, I would think Arkansas would throw their chips on the table to get him, in the current situation they are in, that could reset them pretty fast.

Am I misinterpreting, or does the apology letter translate into English as:

“Hi friend,
I know we have never met before but I was jogging up to you to that day to chat and say hello. Instead, I punched you from behind and nearly killed you, but that is not who I am as a person. I would never do anything like that. Sorry.

-College Graduate”
